What is a Hooded Eye?
Look straight in the mirror and observe your eyes how much lid space do you have? If you have very little space or no space at all or if it’s hiding under extra skin beneath the hood- that’s the HOODED EYES! Hooded eyes are characterized by an extra layer of skin that droops over the crease, partially or fully covering the eyelid when the eyes are open. This can make the lid space appear smaller and the eyes less prominent. Makeup on hooded eyes is a bit complicated if not done accordingly you will end up with droopy eyes.
Additionally, hooded eyes may also have a more prominent brow bone, further emphasizing the hooded effect. Let’s see further what to do and what not to do if you have hooded eyes. I will show you the easy way to do makeup for hooded eyes.

1. Prime Your Eyelids:
Start your makeup routine by applying a quality eye primer or a mattifying concealer to your eyelids. This helps create a smooth canvas for eyeshadow application and prevents creasing, ensuring your eye makeup stays put all day. Apply some loose powder to prevent your eyelids from creasing and to set your eye base completely.
2. Highlighting placement:
Highlighting your browbone correctly is an underrated and crucial step. If you highlight your browbone way down it will show your hood more prominently. Further, it makes your eyes smaller and unattractive. Instead, concentrate your highlighter on the brow area, especially on the arch.

3. Use Matte Eyeshadows:
Applying eyeshadows must be critical for hooded eyes. Opt for matte eyeshadows in neutral shades as your base color. Apply a light shade all over the lid to brighten and open up the eyes, then use a slightly darker shade in the crease to add depth and dimension. If going with a single-color eyeshadow don’t stop it till your crease line, instead stretch your color till your hood.
4. Focus on the Outer corner:
When applying eyeshadow, concentrate the darker shades on the outer corner of the eye in a V or C shape. This technique helps lift and elongate the eyes, creating the illusion of a more defined crease. Blend well to ensure a seamless transition between colors.

5. Apply shimmer and glitters:
Using a lighter color on the lid area makes it bigger, brighter, and more visible at the same time. If you want to add glitter, use it in the center of the lid for that extra dimension to the whole eye look.
6. Tightline Your Eyes:
Tightlining is a great way to define the eyes without closing them off further. Use a waterproof eyeliner to line the upper waterline, starting from the inner corner and working your way outwards. This creates the appearance of fuller lashes and makes the eyes appear larger.

7. Winged Eyeliner:
Eyeliner is one of my favorite parts of the whole hooded eye makeup. and who doesn’t love a wing liner? But when it comes to hooded eyes we don’t prefer that bold big wing liner as it hides underneath the hood. You can barely see the wing and it may transfer to the hood too. Winged eyeliner is a fantastic tool for hooded eyes if it is done correctly. As it helps create the illusion of lifted and elongated eyes. Use a liquid or gel eyeliner to draw a thin line along the upper lash line, gradually thickening it towards the outer corner. Then, flick the liner upwards at the outer corner to create a subtle wing. Personally, I just like a baby wing in the absolute outer corner of my eye.
8. Waterproof Mascara:
Choose a waterproof mascara formula to avoid any smudging or smearing, particularly on hooded eyes where lashes can easily come into contact with the skin. Apply mascara to both your upper and lower lashes to beautifully define and frame your eyes. While lashes are an optional addition, consider opting for ones that are light and wispy at the center, gradually winging out towards the outer corners. This style ensures your eye makeup remains visible. Avoid thick and dense lashes in the center, as they may obscure your eye makeup.
