Professional makeup artist takes on Diwali makeup look 2024…

As Diwali approaches, the excitement of preparing festive outfits, arranging decor, and planning family gatherings fills the air. This is my favorite time of the year to enjoy to the fullest. Minimalist makeup and clean beauty are what I love doing every time. But no Diwali makeup look is complete without a glam makeup style that captures the festive spirit. This festive season calls for gold, bling with rhinestones, and nude or red lips as per your choice. If you are wondering how to achieve this, Let’s break down what I have in my mind for this glamorous Diwali makeup look for 2024, so you can get an idea and achieve a minimalist yet glam Diwali makeup look.

Steps to achieve this look:

#1. Gold Eyes:

Gold is synonymous with Diwali and I am all for it. From shimmering diyas to glittering fireworks, this color encapsulates the festival’s warmth and joy. Incorporating gold into your eye makeup is a beautiful way to amp up the festive eyes.

  • Begin by applying an eyeshadow primer or a concealer on your eyelids. This step is essential to make sure the colors stay vibrant and last through the festivities.
  • Apply a neutral base shade, like a soft beige or light brown, to create a clean slate for the golden hue. You can create this with the help of an eye pencil that can easily smudge. This will help balance the intensity of the gold and make it pop.
  • Use a rich, metallic gold eyeshadow on the eyelids. Apply it generously across the entire lid, going up to the crease for a more dramatic look.
  • For a bit of depth, apply a darker, warm brown, or bronze shade to the outer corners of your eyes. Blend it well to create a seamless transition between the gold and the darker shade.
  • To brighten up the look, dab a hint of champagne or light gold in the inner corners. This not only adds an extra glow but also makes your eyes appear larger and more awake.
  • You can add rhinestones for that extra oomph.
  • Opt for a classic black winged liner if you like but I would like to stay in brown to define the eyes and enhance the shape. Take an angled eyeshadow brush and apply a dark brown shade as an eyeliner for a softer approach.
  • For the final touch, apply mascara or pop on some false lashes. A fluttery lash look enhances the gold’s shine, giving you that extra sparkle.

#2. The Art of Natural, Flawless Skin:

While bold eyes and lips can make a statement, a soft, natural-looking base keeps the makeup refined. This year, I emphasize a dewy and subtle base to balance the drama of the eyes and lips.

  • Start by thoroughly moisturizing your skin. Use a primer suited to your skin type (a hydrating primer for dry skin, or a mattifying one for oily skin) to ensure a long-lasting base.
  • Choose a lightweight, medium-coverage foundation for a natural finish. Dot it onto your face and blend with a damp beauty blender or a buffing brush, focusing on areas that need coverage but keeping the skin looking like skin.
  • Dab a bit of concealer under the eyes, around the nose, and over any blemishes. Blend it well to keep the base looking fresh and seamless.
  • Set the base lightly with a translucent setting powder, especially on the T-zone to control shine. Avoid using too much powder to maintain the natural, dewy glow.
  • A subtle contour can add definition without overpowering the look. Use a cool-toned contour powder or cream under the cheekbones and along the jawline, blending thoroughly for a natural finish.

#3. Nude Lips vs Red Lips:

Red lips are a classic Diwali look that never goes out of style. So are the Nude lips. They bring an instant touch of glamour and elegance, perfectly complementing the golden eyes.

  • Start by Exfoliating and hydrating your lips before applying any color. This helps the lipstick go on smoothly and prevents feathering.
  • Use a brown lip liner to outline your lips, slightly overlining for fuller-looking lips if desired. You can even go with a darker brown to contour the lips simultaneously.
  • Choose a red or nude shade that flatters your undertone. If you prefer a more traditional look, a bright, classic red with blue undertones works beautifully. For a modern touch, opt for a satin-finish red, which adds a hint of gloss while remaining sophisticated. Don’t go too pale in the case of nude lipstick. Be bold be festive!
  • Clean up the edges of your lips with a concealer brush for a sharp, defined finish. This makes the lips look precise and professional.

#4. For the Cheeks:

As winters are approaching, cream products are what I love for my dry skin. Cream blushes are one of them. Using a cream blush not only illuminates the skin but also creates a base for powder blush. Apply the cream blush in a lifted way from high cheekbones stretching towards the temples. This gives you a more lifted and chiseled look.

#5. Add tones of Highlighter:

Diwali makeup look isn’t complete without a highlighter. A well-placed highlighter enhances the high points of your face and gives you a candlelit glow.

  • This season, opt for a liquid or cream-based highlighter. Choose the highlighter that complements your skin tone. Champagne, gold, or rose gold hues work beautifully for medium to deep skin tones, adding a warm glow.
  • Apply the highlighter on the high points of your face—the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, the inner corners of your eyes, and a touch on your cupid’s bow. These areas catch the light naturally and enhance your features.
  • Use a fluffy brush to blend the highlighter into your skin. This will prevent harsh lines and ensure a seamless, radiant look.
  • For an extra festive touch, apply a body highlighter or shimmer on your collarbones and shoulders if your outfit allows. This step elevates the glow.
