Summer is here, bringing with it sunshine, warm breezes, and the chance to experiment with fresh, light makeup looks. Is it me or does everyone have a different style of makeup in summer and winter? This season ditches the heavy foundations and dark palettes, opting for dewy, glowy complexion and pops of color that capture the carefree spirit of summer. Here are eight hot makeup trends Beautyspade spotted on Instagram and YouTube guaranteed to keep you looking cool and feeling confident this season. Keep reading for our round-up of the best makeup in summer which was a hit in 2023 and continued to amaze us in 2024…

1. Bronzed Skin:

Bronzed skin is a summer staple, and this year is no different. It evokes a healthy, sun-kissed look that complements the season perfectly. I just love the tanned skin so why not embrace it beautifully? Achieve this with bronzing powders or creams that are a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone. Apply it to areas where the sun naturally hits – your forehead, cheekbones, nose, and jawline. Remember, the key is to blend seamlessly for a natural, sunkissed effect. You can also use a bronzer with a slight shimmer to add a touch of summery glow.

2. Sheer Blushed Skin:

Balance out your bronzed skin with a touch of sheer blush. This season, it’s all about a subtle flush that adds a youthful and healthy appearance. This makeup trend in summer is the hottest trend and defies expectations by combining intense color payoff with a lightweight, buildable formula. Blush is taking center stage, going beyond the apples of your cheeks to sweep across temples and even the bridge of the nose. But to keep things light and airy for the season, the key is using sheerer formulas. This allows you to build the intensity for a bold flush while maintaining a fresh, summery look.

Opt for liquid or cream blushes for a dewy finish, and choose shades like soft pink, peach, or coral that complement your skin tone. Apply a small amount to the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards towards your temples for a natural lift. We love liquid blushes like Daily Life Forever52 Soft Cheek Tint Liquid Blush, Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Blush Wand, Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip & Cheek Tint, Makeup Revolution Superdewy Liquid Blusher, DIAM BEAUTY Cheeky Affair Liquid Blush, Earth Rhythm Lip & Cheek Tint etc.

3. Duochrome Pop Eyes:

Duochrome eyeshadows are a fun trend that allows you to add a touch of intrigue to your eyes. These shadows have two different colors that shift depending on the light, creating a mesmerizing effect. Play with different color combinations – try pinks that shift to golds, or purples that change to greens. Apply the eyeshadow all over your lid for a bolder look, or use it as a subtle accent in the crease or outer corners of your eye. Ditch your black eyeliners with a colorful alternative to look fresh and cool this summer season. Swiss beauty holographic eyeliners, Charmacy Milano Star Bomb Eyeshadow, and PAC Spotlight Duo Chrome Eyeshadow are some of our favorites.

4. Flaunting Freckles with Sheer Coverage:

Freckles are a natural beauty feature that’s being embraced more than ever. This summer, ditch the heavy foundation and let your freckles shine through! This is what we call lightweight grunge. Use a lightweight BB cream or tinted moisturizer for a touch of coverage without hiding your natural beauty. Enhance your freckles with a freckle pen if you have sparse ones, or simply embrace them as they are! We love Rare Beauty’s Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation, Maybelline New York Super Stay Lumi-Matte Liquid Foundation, and Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow All-In-One Tinted Moisturizer.

5. Glazed Lips:

Glossy lips are back in a big way! Dior Lip oils and Clarins lip comfort oils started this. Glazed lips add a touch of shine and dimension to your pout, perfect for a summery look. Opt for sheer lip glosses that come in various shades from pinks and nudes to berries and reds. You can even layer your gloss over your favorite lipstick for a high-shine finish that keeps your lips hydrated throughout the day. Nyx, Rare Beauty, Diam Beauty, and Kiro Beauty are following and providing us with great formulas in lip oils.

6. Frosty Shimmery Eyes:

Frosty eyeshadows earlier in 90’s now in 2024 adding a cool, ethereal vibe to your eyes. These shadows have a pearlescent finish that reflects light and creates a shimmering effect. Choose icy blues, silvers, or even lavenders to create a truly summery look. Apply the shadow all over your lid or use it as a highlighter on your brow bone for a subtle touch of shimmer. Urban decay moondust eyeshadows, Moira cosmetics single eyeshadows, and Color-pop super shock eyeshadows are staples in one’s vanity.

7. Soft Girl Makeup:

Mark your calendars, because summer beauty is getting a major dose of pink!  Forget subtle – “soft girl makeup” or “Barbie makeup” is taking center stage, bringing with it a wave of vibrant trends. Think bold hot pink nails, lashes that graze the sky thanks to dramatic volumizing techniques, playful touches of glitter for an extra dose of sparkle, and statement lips in every shade of pink imaginable. This trend is all about achieving a youthful and innocent look. This involves creating a flawless, dewy base with sheer foundation and concealer. Enhance your natural features with a soft pink blush and a hint of highlighter on the cheekbones and Cupid’s bow. For the eyes, use light pink or peach eyeshadows with a touch of shimmer, and finish with a generous amount of mascara. Finally, complete the look with a soft pink lip gloss.

8. Underpainting:

One of my favorite ways of doing makeup- “Underpainting” is a technique where you apply cream or liquid products to your face before your foundation. This trend has taken over the internet from content creators to professional makeup artists all are raving about it. This creates a base layer of color that enhances your natural features and helps your makeup last longer throughout the day. Use cream blushes, bronzers, and highlighters to subtly sculpt your face and add dimension. Then, apply a sheer foundation to even out your skin tone without hiding the underpainting effects.

Bonus Tip: Don’t forget the importance of sun protection! Always wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher before applying makeup. Look for foundations and BB creams that contain SPF for added protection.
